Therapy for adults and young people in-person or online in Hamilton, across Lanarkshire.

Hi, I'm Stephen Murray. I have a SCOTACS Diploma in Counselling and Group work - A Cognitive Behavioral Approach (2016 SQA level 10)

I work with adults and young people who have ongoing challenges with depression and anxiety. My goal is to help you stop feeling overwhelmed and depressed and start facilitating positive change.

My journey to Becoming a therapist

My own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with clients

I struggled with Social Anxiety when I was younger which I found held me back from doing the things I wanted to with my family and friends. I was anxious about what people thought off me. One day I thought to myself "this cannot be what life is like there must be something different". I then started to look at how feelings played a part in my behavior, and I discovered that the way I see myself affects what kind of situations trigger my anxiety. Figuring all this out over the years and seeing how emotions negatively affect people’s life's, I decided to share and help people understand their emotions helping clients discover their own strength leading to self-empowerment.

My life experiences are what lead me to become the therapist I am today.

Helping people Gives my life meaning and being a therapist is rewarding. I love helping people become healthier and more empowered and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is knowing that I make a difference in people's lives.

I am committed to facilitating positive change.

I Have a genuine Interest In others And bring An open, Non-judgmental presence to sessions

I have a natural ability to:

  • Understand people's experiences

  • Help people identify what they are feeling

  • Explain mental health symptoms in an easy-to-understand way

  • Accept people for who they are and in their current life circumstances

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people through difficult and stressful times.

Our sessions are focused on you

Sessions will provide you with the space to express your thoughts and feelings. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to express your thoughts and feelings and be understood and heard.

It's important to me to provide a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself and you feel I am open to any feedback and questions you may have. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to Therapy.

Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

As a therapist, I embrace the following philosophies

  • I believe that you deserve to feel better

  • I believe that you are worthy of love and care

  • I believe that people underestimate their ability to change. It's possible to change. It's possible to enjoy life again.

  • I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do

  • I believe that we can stop feeling shame when we share our story with someone who can hear it with empathy and understanding

My professional background

Over the last 10 years I have worked on personal development and become a qualified CBT therapist working for charity organisations and in my own private practice. I have made it my life’s work to understand emotion and how it affects the way we see ourselves and the influence feelings have on our life. The one and only reason I have taken this approach to my own life is so I can help people with there emotional and physical problems.
